Mobile Apps for Teaching & Learning

Course Description and Objectives

This course leverages the potential of mobile technologies by exploring, analyzing, and designing mobile apps for use in various settings such as teaching, learning, and work.” In this course, I evaluated the strengths and weakness of different apps available in the Android Market. I learned to design and develop mobile apps running on Android OS devices through hands-on activities and studying tutorials as well as web-based documentations, participated in online discussions, and shared resources.

STANDARD 1 DESIGN

STANDARD 4 MANAGEMENT

Candidates demonstrate knowledge, skills, and dispositions to plan, organize, coordinate, and supervise instructional technology by applying principles of project, resource, delivery system, and information management.

STANDARD 5 EVALUATION

Candidates demonstrate knowledge, skills, and dispositions to evaluate the adequacy of instruction and learning by applying principles of problem analysis, criterion-referenced measurement, formative and summative evaluation, and long-range planning.

MIT App Inventor

MIT App Inventor contains the Component Designer and Blocks Editor for designers who want to get to the business of creating Android Apps without going into depth on writing code. The Component Window allows the designer to drag and drop components into a preliminary setting prior to launching the Blocks Editor to create actions and commands by placing "blocks" in a logical jig-saw puzzle fashion. Results can be viewed on an "emulator" of an Android cell phone, or live on a connected Android device. (Click image for full size)
